Joint Earns Corvias ECAC Field Athlete of the Week Honors

CENTERVILLE, Mass. --- Senior jumper Kristopher Joint of the Moravian College indoor track & field team has been named the Corvias ECAC Division III South Male Field Athlete of the Week for his performance at the 22nd Annual John Covert Classic last weekend at Lehigh University.

Joint won the triple jump at the meet, and he was the runner-up in the long jump. Joint posted a distance of 14.82 meters (48 feet, 7 ½ inches) in the triple jump that equaled his season-best as the top jump in NCAA Division III this season. Joint owns the top eight triple jumps in the Greyhounds' record book, and Saturday's leap is tied for second on the list.

In the long jump, Joint hit the ECAC qualifying mark with a leap of 6.85 meters (22 feet, 5 ¾ inches) and moved into a tie for 24th in the nation. The top 15 individuals in each event at the end of the season will compete at the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championships in Lincoln, Nebraska on March 14 & 15.

"Kris has been doing extremely well thus far this season and thanks to his success, we've re-evaluated our goals going into the ECAC Championships in about a month," stated Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "We are hoping for a higher finish than we anticipated heading into this season, and a lot of those raised expectations are due to the season Kris has been having."

Joint was also honored on Monday as the Landmark Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week for the second straight week and the third time this season.

Moravian is slated to return to action on Saturday, February 8 at the Crusader Classic hosted by Susquehanna University. The meet schedule begins at 9:30 a.m. in Selinsgrove.
