Men's Track & Field Moves Up to 18th in USTFCCCA Top 25 Poll

NEW ORLEANS, La. --- The Moravian College men's track & field team moved up two spots to No. 18 in the nation in this week's United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division III Top 25 Poll.

The Greyhounds garnered 55.21 points, which is based on how the team would fair in a dual meet against other teams in the country with the placement of individuals on the Track & Field Results Reporting System top 50. Those student-athletes in the top 20 in each event will head to the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships to be hosted by Ohio Wesleyan College in Delaware, Ohio on May 23-25. Moravian is also ranked fifth in the Mideast Region while the women's team is fourth in the region.

Moravian currently has two of the top individuals in their events on the TFRRS list. Senior Kristopher Joint is No. 1 in the nation in the triple jump with a distance of 15.10 meters (49 feet, 6.5 inches), and he is also 16th in the long jump with a leap of 7.13 meters (23 feet, 4.75 inches) while senior thrower Timothy Lorah is first in the country in the javelin at 65.50 meters (214 feet, 11 inches) after a throw at the Penn Relays this past Saturday. The Hounds also have sophomore pole vaulter Ryan Karnopp in 11th place at a height of 4.85 meters (15 feet, 11 inches).

Senior David Cariello is currently one spot out of the NCAA meet in 21st in the decathlon with 6,230 points, and he will have one more chance to improve his mark at the ECAC Division III Championships on May 16-17. Freshman Cory Taggert is 37th in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.85 while junior Chris Ossont is 48th in the triple jump with a mark of 13.74 meters (45 feet, one inch).

Moravian will look to win its seventh straight Landmark Conference Championship this weekend, May 3-4, at the 2014 meet being hosted by The United States Merchant Marine Academy in King's Point, New York.
