Joint Wins 4th Landmark Athlete of the Week Honor

TOWSON, Md. – Senior jumper Kristopher Joint of the Moravian College men's indoor track & field team has been named the Landmark Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week for the fourth time this winter after his performance last weekend.

Joint finished in second place in the long jump competition at the Lafayette-Rider Winter Games held at the New York City Armory last Friday night with a mark of 7.08 meters (23' 7.25"). The jump qualified the senior for a second event in the 2014 ECAC Indoor Championships after clinching the automatic qualifier in the triple jump earlier this season.

His long jump leap on Friday currently ranks in a ninth place tie on the Track & Field Results and Reporting System (TFRRS) in Division III. This season, the NCAA will invite the top 15 on the TFRRS list for the men in each event to the Indoor National Championships on March 14-15 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

"One of the most frustrating things that can happen to an athlete, especially in track & field, is to plateau," head coach Jesse Baumann said. "Kris has shown no signs of plateauing this winter; he seems to keep getting better and better. He is extremely focused and is never satisfied with a mark. His desire to become better should push him very far into ECAC's and, hopefully, nationals in the jumping events."

Joint's jump of 14.82 meters (48' 7.5") in the triple at Lehigh University in December not only qualified for the ECAC Championship, but also currently ranks second in the nation on the TFRRS list.

The Greyhounds are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 22 for the Kutztown University Indoor Last Chance Qualifier. Moravian also has a meet scheduled the following day, Sunday, Feb. 23 at the Princeton University Invitational.
