24 Greyhounds to Compete at ECAC Outdoor Championships

2014 ECAC Division III Outdoor Preview

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College has qualified 24 student-athletes, 14 males and 10 females, to compete at the 2014 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York on Thursday and Friday, May 15 and 16. The women's team won their seventh straight Landmark Conference Outdoor title on May 4 while the men's squad was the runner-up, and both squads are under the direction of third-year head coach Jesse Baumann.

On the women's side, junior Jenny Kratch will be competing in two individual events. Katch enters the shot put with a toss of 11.71 meters (38 feet, five inches), and she will also compete in the hammer throw with a mark of 46.62 meters (152 feet, 11 inches).

In the jumps, sophomore Christelle Reglas will compete in long jump with a leap of 5.20 meters (17 feet, 0.75 inches) while freshmen Lauren Suelke and Kiara Bright will be in the triple jump as both have a qualifying mark of 10.90 meters (35 feet, 9.25 inches).

In the track events, junior Brielle Sutter will be taking part in the 200 meter dash after posting a time of 25.75 seconds earlier this year and the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.57 seconds. Classmate Morgan Redmond qualified for the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.32 seconds and the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.09. Sophomore Corinne Glass will be competing in the 200 meter dash with a mark of 25.71 seconds while junior Brianna Wright is running in the 100 meter dash with a qualifying mark of 12.19 seconds and the 200 meter dash in 25.98 seconds.

The quartet of Sutter, Redmond, Glass and Wright qualified for the 4x100 meter relay in 48.29 seconds. Junior Emily Lambright made the 5,000 meter field with a time of 18:21.66 while junior Devon Bedell will run on the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a qualifying time of 11:57.22.

On the men's side, senior Kristopher Joint will lead the Greyhounds in the jumping events. Joint qualified for the triple jump with a school and Landmark Conference record distance of 15.10 meters (49 feet, 6.5 inches) and the long jump with a leap of 7.13 meters (23 feet, 4.75 inches). Junior Chris Ossont is also entered in the triple jump with a qualifying mark of 13.74 meters (45 feet, one inch) while freshman Kahron Walker will compete in the high jump with a qualifying height of 1.93 meters (six feet, four inches).

The Greyhounds have two other field competitors with junior Parker Munson in both the shot put and discus and sophomore Ryan Karnopp in the pole vault. Munson has a qualifying throw of 14.25 meters (46 feet, nine inches) in the shot put and a mark of 44.85 meters (147 feet, one inch) in the discus. Karnopp's top height of the season is 4.85 meters (15 feet, 11 inches).

In the track events, junior Dillon Farrell is entered in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 3:57.75 while freshman Cory Taggert will run in the 800 meter run with a qualifying time of 1:53.85. Junior Alec Duncan is entered in the 3,000 meter steeplechase for a second straight year with a time of 9:38.06 while senior Yacine Zerdoum has a qualifying time of 49.64 seconds in the 400 meter dash.

Sophomore Gavin Bailey is entered in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 55.91 seconds while senior David Cariello is entered in the decathlon with a point total of 6,320.

Moravian is also sending its 4x100-meter relay squad of Karnopp, senior Craig Arner, sophomore John Barr and freshman Matt Barnett qualified with a time of 43.23.

The ECAC meet is the final qualifying event for the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championships hosted by the Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio on May 22-24. 

Beginning in 2012, the top 20 men and top 22 women in each event plus the top 16 relay teams will enter the meet. Entering the ECAC Championships, the Greyhounds have three student-athletes currently high enough to compete next week – Karnopp in the pole vault, senior Timothy Lorah in the javelin and Joint both the long jump and the triple jump. The rest of Moravian's competitors at the ECAC meet will be looking to improve their marks enough to make the national meet.
