Joint Selected Landmark Men's Field Athlete of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Senior jumper Kristopher Joint of the Moravian College men's track & field team has been selected as the Landmark Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week for his performance last weekend.

Joint broke his own school record in the triple jump by over a foot, and he also captured first place in the long jump to lead the Greyhounds at the non-scoring Muhlenberg College Invitational Saturday afternoon. Joint surpassed 15 meters outdoors for the first time in his career with a mark of 15.10 meters (49 feet, 6.5 inches) in the triple jump. The distance, which was also an ECAC qualifying mark, bettered his previous record by 13.25 inches.

The mark also moves Joint to first in the event on the Track & Field Results Reporting System. The top 20 men and 22 women in each event will compete at the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University in late May.

Joint also posted an ECAC qualifying mark while winning the long jump with a leap of 7.13 meters (23 feet, 4.75 inches), a distance that puts him third on the TFRRS list in the event.

"Kris has been battling a hamstring issue that's plagued him since indoor ECACs," Head Coach Jesse Baumann said. "This meet wasn't a major point of emphasis for him, mainly because we wanted to be cautious with his leg and see what he could handle, and also just get used to competing again since he hadn't since indoor NCAAs. Things obviously went a little better than we anticipated. Even with the cold temperatures and rough cross winds, he substantially bettered his previous school record, and had one of his best ever long jumps. It was just a great opening meet that to be honest, we didn't expect."

Moravian will return action on Friday and Saturday, April 11 and 12 when they host the Annual Coach P Open at Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field. Action on Friday begins at 4:00 p.m. while the first events on Saturday are slated for 10:00 a.m.
