Cariello Starts Strong at Lehigh Fast Times Before Finals

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Senior David Cariello of the Moravian College men's indoor track & field team opened its 2013-14 season with the first day of the men's indoor heptathlon at the Lehigh University Fast Times Before Finals Invitational at Rauch Fieldhouse Friday evening.

Cariello is in second place after the opening four events with a point total of 2,655. Cariello opened the evening with a time of 7.39 seconds in the 60-meter dash to score 749 points before adding another 746 points with a leap of 6.71 meters (22 feet, ½ inch) in the long jump. Cariello added a shot put of 10.92 meters (35 feet, 10 inches) for 541 points before finishing the first day of the event by clearing 1.79 meters (5 feet, 10 ½ inches) in the high jump.

Cariello has three more events on Saturday – the 60-meter hurdles, the pole vault and the 1,000-meter run – beginning at 9:00 a.m. He is the defending Landmark Conference Champion in the hurdles and the pole vault.

The rest of the Greyhounds' squad will compete in a full slate of events at the Fast Times Before Finals starting at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 7.
