Lorah, Zerdoum Selected as Landmark Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Seniors thrower Timothy Lorah and sprinter Yacine Zerdoum of the Moravian College men's track & field team have been selected as the Landmark Conference Men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.

Lorah placed fifth in the College Men's Javelin Throw College event at the 120th Penn Relays at historic Franklin Field Saturday morning with a season-best and ECAC qualifying mark of 65.50 meters (214 feet, 10 inches). Lorah's throw, which moved him back into first the fourth with the top throw in the in Division III on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list, came on his first attempt of the competition. The top 20 males on the TFRRS list at the end of the season will compete at the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University. Lorah finished the preliminaries with throws of 64.47 and 64.56 meters. In the finals, Lorah posted marks of 62.47, 63.25 and 62.43 meters.

"Tim bounced back from our home meet to have his best throw of the season, which put him at No. 1 in the country," stated Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "Not that it has ever really been an issue with Tim, but it goes to show he can perform well when the pressure is on, since the Penn Relays are obviously a big meet, and it gives us every reason to believe he can replicate that performance in some of our post-season meets. He's fit and ready to throw even farther the last month of the season."

Zerdoum finished fourth in the 400-meter dash at the non-scoring Lehigh University on Saturday with an ECAC qualifying time of 49.71 seconds. On Thursday evening, Zerdoum ran the leadoff leg of Moravian's 4x400-meter relays in 51.33 seconds as the Greyhounds placed seventh in the Pop Haddleton MAC race with a time of 3:27.46.

"Yacine had a strong weekend, we wanted to work on him being able to double leading up to the conference meet, so he ran a strong opening leg in a crowded 4x4 field on Friday at the Penn Relays, and then ran one of his best times of the year in the open 400 on Saturday at Lehigh," Baumann said. "We feel confident he can bounce back well after a hard effort the day before."

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, May 3 on the opening day of the 2014 Landmark Conference Championships at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in King's Point, New York.
