Karnopp Earns ECAC Athlete of the Week Honors

CENTERVILLE, Mass. --- Sophomore pole vaulter Ryan Karnopp of the Moravian College men's indoor track & field team has been named the ECAC Corvais Division III South Men's Field Athlete of the Week after his performance last week.

Karnopp, who also earned Landmark Conference Field Athlete of the Week honors on Monday for the second time this winter, earned his fourth first-place finish this winter at the Kutztown University Last Chance Invitational on Saturday. Karnopp cleared 4.88 meters (16 feet), a new personal record, to move into a tie for seventh in NCAA Division III, according to the Track & Field Results and Reporting System. The top15 on the TFRRS list in each event on the final day of the regular season, next Saturday, March 8, will head to the Indoor National Championships on March 14-15 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

"Ryan wound up having a great jump," stated third-year Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "We knew for a few weeks that he was capable of at least hitting 15' 6" and possibly approaching 16' and then he put it all together on Saturday for nine-inch PR. He had a great attempt at the 16' 3.5" bar, he just didn't finish the top end of his vault like he could have, but we know he's capable of even bigger jumps yet this season."

The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday, March 1 at the 2014 Landmark Conference Championships hosted by Susquehanna University at 10:00 a.m. Moravian is in search of its fifth straight Landmark title and sixth championship in the seven-year history of the conference.
