ECAC Selects Lorah as Men's DIII South Field Athlete of the Week

CENTERVILLE, Mass. --- Senior thrower Timothy Lorah of the Moravian College men's track & field team has been selected as the Corvias ECAC Division III South Men's Field Athlete of the Week for his performance last Saturday.

In his first competition of the 2014 outdoor season, Lorah won the javelin at the Golden Rams Invitational hosted by West Chester University of Pennsylvania. He had the winning toss of 63.62 meters (208 feet, nine inches) on his opening throw, surpassing the ECAC qualifying mark by 8.12 meters. The throw moved Lorah to the top of the Track & Field Results Reporting System list in the event. The top 20 men and 22 women in each event will compete at the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University in late May.

"We weren't sure what to expect from Tim being it was his first meet of the season and on a grass runway but to start the year with that type of throw, we're satisfied," stated Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "While there is still two months in the season before the NCAA meet, a throw of that distance will usually get you to the national championships. Now it is up to Tim to focus on getting bigger throws and peaking when it counts the rest of the season."

Lorah had distances of 52.44 meters and 60.01 meters on his other two throws in the preliminaries last Saturday. He recorded a toss of 58.69 meters on his first attempt of the final before fouling on his final two attempts.

Moravian's entire team will be in action on Saturday, March 29 at the Lafayette College 7-Way Meet beginning at 11:30 a.m.
