Karnopp Tops the Podium Again in the Pole Vault at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Sophomore Ryan Karnopp picked up a first place finish in the pole vault at a second straight meet, this time at the Crusader Classic hosted by Susquehanna University on Saturday, to lead the Moravian College men's indoor track & field team at the non-team scoring event.

Karnopp, who already qualified for the ECAC Indoor Championships this winter, cleared the 4.55-meter mark (14' 11") to pace the competition. Senior David Cariello finished in third in the pole vault with a leap of 4.40 (14' 5.25").

Cariello was fourth in both the marginally tight trials, and finals, of the 60-meter hurdles. His time of 8.64 seconds in the trials was just four hundredths of a second away from the fastest qualifying time. He sped up in the finals, stopping the clock at 8.59 for the fourth-place finish. Both times were ECAC-qualifiers, but the senior already qualified for the indoor track postseason with his run of 8.55 seconds at the season-opening Fast Times Before Finals meet at Lehigh University.

The 4x200 relay team scored a fifth place finish at the Crusader Classic with a finishing time of 1:39.19. The foursome was comprised of sprinters senior Yacine Zerdoum, sophomores Gavin Bailey and Albert Myers, and freshman Austin Gardener.

The 4x400 distance relay team of freshmen Cory Taggert and Andrew Mitchell, sophomore Jeremy Rigotti and junior Alec Duncan placed eighth with a time of 3:36.23.

Taggert added another top 10 finish with a time of 4:35.11 in the one-mile run, good for ninth place at Susquehanna.

The Greyhounds return to action on Friday, Feb. 14 at the Lafayette College-Rider University Winter Games at the New York City Armory in Manhattan.
