Men Place 2nd at Landmark Championships

KING'S POINT, N.Y. --- The Moravian College men's track & field team found itself in the unusual spot of finishing second at the 2014 Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by The United States Merchant Marine Academy Sunday.

The Greyhounds, who had won the first six Landmark outdoor titles and six of the seven indoor championships, finished 13.5 points behind Susquehanna University, which scored 300 points to Moravian's 286.5.

The Hounds did have senior Kristopher Joint earn Landmark Field Athlete of the Year honors after capturing the title indoors while freshman Kahron Walker was the Co-Rookie of the Year. Moravian also finished with five individual champions on Sunday.

Joint won the triple jump for a second straight year with a meet record mark of 13.96 meters (45 feet, 9.75 inches), and he was tied for third in the high jump at 1.83 meters (six feet) to earn an addition 5.5 points.

Walker won the high jump at an ECAC qualifying height of 1.93 meters (six feet, four inches), and he took third in the triple jump with a mark of 12.36 meters (40 feet, 6.75 inches).

Senior David Cariello won the 110 meter high hurdles in an ECAC qualifying time of 15.02 seconds, and he was seventh in the high hump at 1.78 meters (five feet, 10 inches).

Freshman Cory Taggert won the 800 meter run in 1:56.94 while junior Dillon Farrell was fourth in 2:00.27 to combined of 15 points.

Junior Parker Munson captured the discus with a Landmark Conference and meet record toss of (141 feet, nine inches). The Greyhounds took the top five spots and had six place winners in the discus to earn 35 points in the event. Freshman Greg Cahill was the runner-up at 41.68 meters (136 feet, nine inches), and he was followed by junior Jeffrey Gallagher in third at 40.49 meters (132 feet, 10 inches), senior Frank Yannotta at fourth with a mark of 38.36 meters (125 feet, 10 inches) and freshman Ki-Jana in fifth at 37.95 meters (124 feet, six inches). Freshman Ljuboslav Boskic was seventh at 36.42 meters (119 feet, six inches).

Munson was also third in the shot put with a mark of 13.68 meters (44 feet, 10.75 inches), and Yannotta was fifth at 13.13 meters (43 feet, one inch) and Boskic took fifth at 13.01 meters (42 feet, 8.25 inches) as Moravian scored 13 points in the shot put.

Junior Chris Ossont was the runner-up to Joint in the triple jump at 12.95 meters (42 feet, six inches), and with Walker in third, the Greyhounds scored 24 points in the event.

On the track, senior Yacine Zerdoum was the runner-up in the 400 meter dash in 50.78 seconds while sophomore John Barr took fourth in 52.34 seconds for 13 points.

Junior Alex Duncan finished second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 9:48.88, and Duncan was sixth in the 5,000 meters in 15:50.12. Farrell finished as the runner-up in the 5K in 15:33.11 combining for 11 points with Duncan.

Freshman Austin Gardener was third in the 100 meter dash finals in 11.13 seconds while freshman Matt Barnett placed fourth in 11.28 seconds and sophomore Gavin Bailey took sixth in 11.39 seconds for a total of 14 points. Gardener was sixth in the 200 meter dash in 33.02 seconds while Zerdoum took seventh in 33.11 seconds to garner a combined five points.

Senior Craig Arner placed sixth in the 110 meter high hurdles in 17.02 seconds, and sophomore Ryan Sickler was seventh in 19.41 as Moravian scored 15 points in the race. The Greyhounds scored five points in the 400 meter hurdles with freshman Jordan Sweeney in fifth in 1:02.45 and junior Mike Hofmann in eighth in a time of 1:06.99.

Gardener, Barnett, Arner and Barr combined to run a time of 44.09 seconds in the 4x100 meter relay and finish third in the race. Moravian ended the meet with Barr, Ossont, Taggert and freshman Andrew Mitchell combining for a fifth place time of 3:36.71 in the 4x400 meter relay.

The Hounds are scheduled to return to action on Thursday and Friday, May 15 and 16 at the 2014 ECAC Division III Championships to be hosted by RPI.
