Joint Earns Corvias ECAC DIII South Athlete of the Week Honors

CENTERVILLE, Mass. --- Moravian College senior jumper Kristopher Joint has been named the Corvias ECAC Division III South Men's Field Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Muhlenberg College Invitational last Saturday.

Joint surpassed his previous school record in the triple jump by over a foot, and he also finished in first place in the long jump to lead the Greyhounds at the meet on a cold and windy afternoon. Joint went past 15 meters outdoors for the first time in his career with a distance of 15.10 meters (49 feet, 6.5 inches) in the triple jump. The triple jump, which was also an ECAC qualifying mark, was 13.25 inches longer than his previous record set nearly a year ago.

The 15.10 meter mark moved Joint to first in the event on the Track & Field Results Reporting System. The top 20 men and 22 women in each event will compete at the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University in late May.

Joint also had an ECAC qualifying mark on his first-place long jump leap with a distance of 7.13 meters (23 feet, 4.75 inches), a distance that had him as high as third and now tied for seventh on the TFRRS list in the event.

"When we were competing at the indoor ECAC meet in March, Kris's hamstring began to bother him so we weren't really using the Muhlenberg meet as a point of emphasis since it was his first competition since being an All-American at the NCAA Indoor Championships," stated Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "We really wanted to cautious with Kris to see what his leg could handle, and obviously, the results were better than anticipated. It was cold and there was a cross wind on the runway, but Kris still came through with one of his best long jumps ever."

Moravian is scheduled to return action on Friday and Saturday, April 11 and 12 when they host the Annual Coach P Open at Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field. Action on Friday begins at 4:00 p.m. while the first events on Saturday are slated for 10:00 a.m.
