Joint Jumps to School Record in Triple Jump at Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- Senior Kristopher Joint surpassed his own school record in the triple jump by over a foot, and he also won the long jump to lead the Moravian College men's track & field team at the non-scoring Muhlenberg College Invitational on a cold and windy Saturday.

Joint went over 15 meters outdoors for the first time in his career with a mark of 15.10 meters (49 feet, 6.5 inches) in the triple jump. The ECAC qualifying mark betters his previous school record set last April by 13.25 inches. The mark also moves Joint to first in the event on the Track & Field Results Reporting System. The top 20 men and 22 women in each event will compete at the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University in late May.

Joint also won the long jump Saturday with an ECAC qualifying mark of 7.13 meters (23 feet, 4.75 inches), a distance that puts him third on the TFRRS list in the event. Sophomore Albert Myers was fourth in the long jump at 6.47 meters (21 feet, 2.75 inches) while junior Chris Ossont placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.42 meters (44 feet, half an inch). Freshman Kahron Walker tied for sixth in the high jump at a height of 1.83 meters (six feet).

In other field events, junior Parker Munson was second in the discus with an ECAC qualifying toss of 44.85 meters (147 feet, two inches) while junior Jeffrey Gallagher placed fouth at 43.40 meters (142 feet, five inches) and senior Frank Yannotta took sixth at 41.96 meters (137 feet, eight inches). Munson also placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 13.81 meters (45 feetm 3.75 inches) while Gallagher was eighth in the hammer throw on Friday at DeSales University with a toss of 39.64 meters (130 feet, one inch). Freshman Marquise Bourgeois finished eighth in the javelin with a toss of 44.69 meters (146 feet, seven inches).

On the track, senior David Cariello was fourth in the 110-meter high hurdles with an ECAC qualifying time of 15.43 seconds while sophomore Gavin Bailey finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles in 57.49 seconds. Senior Yacine Zerdoum was the runner-up in the 400-meter dash with an ECAC qualifying mark of 49.98 seconds while sophomore Tyler Dwyer was ninth in 51.01 seconds. Freshman Austin Gardener took eighth in the 100-meter dash in 11.22 seconds.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Friday and Saturday, April 11 and 12 when they host the Annual Coach P Open at Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field. Action on Friday begins at 4:00 p.m. while the first events on Saturday are slated for 10:00 a.m.
