20 Hounds to Compete at ECAC Indoor Championships

ROXBURY CROSSING, Mass. --- Moravian College has qualified 20 student-athletes, 10 women and 10 men, to compete at the 2014 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury Crossing, Massachusetts, on Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8.

Both Moravian teams are coming off of Landmark Conference Championships last weekend, the seventh straight for the women and sixth for the men in the seven years of the conference including five consecutive titles.

On the women's side, junior Brielle Sutterwill be competing in three events for the Greyhounds. Sutter is qualified in the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.32 seconds and the 400-meter dash in 59.60 seconds, and is part of Moravian's 4x200-meter relay team with juniors Morgan Redmond and Brianna Wright and one of two sophomores Corinne Glass or Christelle Reglas that qualified with a time of 1:45.31.

Wright will also be competing in the 60-meter dash after a qualifying time of 8.03 seconds while Redmond is entered in the 60-meter hurdles in a qualifying mark of 9.32 seconds. Glass is entered in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 26.67 seconds.

Junior Emily Lambright will run in a pair of races, qualifying in the mile run in 5:16.13 and the 3,000-meter run at 10:42.89. Senior Jennifer Smilgis is qualified in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.30 while junior Claire Del Casale will run in the 5,000-meter run after a qualifying mark of 18:23.23.

In the field events, freshman Lauren Suelke will compete in both the long jump with a qualifying mark of 5.30 meters (17 feet, 4 ¼ inches) and the triple jump after a qualifying distance of 10.97 meters (36 feet). Reglas will also compete in the long jump with a leap of 5.18 meters (17 feet) while junior Dana Fineman will participate in the pole vault with a qualifying height of 3.46 meters (11 feet, 4 ¼ inches).

On the men's side, two of Moravian's 10 qualifiers will compete in multiple events. Senior Kristopher Joint will compete in both the long jump and triple jump after qualifying marks of 7.17  meters (23 feet, 6 ¼ inches) in the long jump, which is the fourth best jump, and 14.82 meters (48 feet, 7 ½ inches) in the triple jump, the third longest distance. Sophomore Albert Myers is entered in the long jump with a qualifying mark of 6.97 meters (22 feet, 10 ½ inches) and the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.09 seconds.

The Hounds have three other entries on the track with junior Dillon Farrell in the 5,000-meter run with a qualifying time of 15:12.11, freshman Cory Taggert in the 800-meter run at 1:55.99 and freshman Austin Gardener in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.20 seconds.

Sophomore Ryan Karnopp enters the meet with the second-best height in the pole vault at 4.88 meters (16 feet) while freshman Kahron Walker will participate in the high jump at 1.98 meters (six feet, six inches). Junior Parker Munson will compete in the shot put after a qualifying mark of 14.61 meters (47 feet, 11 ¼ inches) while junior Chris Ossont will compete with Joint in the triple jump with a distance of 13.90 meters (45 feet, 7 ¼ inches). 

Senior David Cariello is scheduled to participate in the indoor heptathlon which includes the 60-meter dash, long jump, shot put and high jump on Friday and the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000-meter run will be held on Saturday. Cariello has the fifth-best qualifying mark with 4749 points.

The ECAC meet is the final chance to qualify for the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championships next weekend. The top 15 men and top 17 women in each event on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list will be headed to the national meet. Currently, Joint is in the top 10 in both the long jump and triple jump while Karnopp is in the top 10 in the pole vault.
