Ossont Leads Greyhounds at Collegeville Classic

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. --- Junior Chris Ossont had a pair of top five finishes to lead the Moravian College men's indoor track & field team at the Collegeville Classic hosted by Ursinus College.

Ossont was the runner-up in the triple jump with a distance of 13.10 meters (42 feet, 11 3/4 inches), and he placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.95 meters (19 feet, 6 1/4 inches). Senior David Cariello took fifth in the high jump, clearing 1.73 meters (five feet, eight inches).

Freshman Greg Cahill finished third in the shot put with a toss of 13.41 meters (44 feet) while classmate Matt Jones took fourth at 13.31 meters (43 feet, eight inches). Sophomore Jacob Fritz was ninth in the event at 12.53 meters (41 feet, 1 1/2 inches) while freshman Ki-Jana Williams was tenth with a toss of 12.40 meters (40 feet, 8 1/4 inches).

On the track, Moravian's 4x800-meter relay squad of freshman Cory Taggert and Andrew Mitchell, sophomore Maxwell Korten and junior Alec Duncan finished second in 8:49.78. Taggert also finished sixth in the mile run with a time of 4:38.67. Freshman Marquise Bourgeois was 10th in the 60-meter dash in 7.41 seconds while sophomore Tyler Dwyer was 10th in the 400-meter dash in 53.54 seconds.

The meet Friday evening was the first for the Greyhounds since December 7, and just half of the team competed. The rest of the Moravian squad will return to action on Saturday, January 25 at the Princeton University Tiger Open beginning at 10:00 a.m.
