Joint Jumps to Another Landmark Athlete of the Week Award

TOWSON, Md. --- Senior jumper Kristopher Joint of the Moravian College men's indoor track & field team has been honored as the Landmark Conference Field Athlete of the Week for a second consecutive week after his performance last weekend.

Joint captured first in the triple jump at the 22nd Annual John Covert Classic hosted by Lehigh University, and he was the runner-up in the long jump. Joint's distance of 14.82 meters (48 feet, 7 ½ inches) in the triple jump equaled his season-best as the top jump in NCAA Division III this season. The distance is also tied for second longest in Moravian history, and Joint now has the top eight triple jumps in the Greyhounds' record book.

In the long jump, Joint hit the ECAC qualifying mark with a leap of 6.85 meters (22 feet, 5 ¾ inches), moving into a tie for 24th in the nation. The top 15 individuals in each event at the end of the season will compete at the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championships in Lincoln, Nebraska on March 14 & 15.

"We're pretty happy with Kris' weekend performance," stated Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "Obviously we expect him to continue to improve, especially in the long jump, but we're seeing a lot of consistency with his triple jump right now. This is exactly what he needs - a lot of athletes can excel in one attempt on one weekend, but when you can continue to produce 48 foot jumps on any given weekend, you have more confidence you can do that when you get to bigger meets like Landmarks, ECACs, and ultimately NCAAs. For three consecutive meets, he's jumped the top triple jump in Division III and we know we haven't seen the best of what he can jump yet."

Joint has now earned Landmark Field Athlete of the Week honors three times this winter.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday, February 8 at the Crusader Classic hosted by Susquehanna University. The meet is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m. in Selinsgrove.
