Greyhounds Place 5th at ECAC DIII Championships

ROXBURY CROSSING, Mass. --- The Moravian College men's indoor track & field team placed fifth of 62 teams scoring points at the 2014 ECAC Division III Indoor Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

The Greyhounds registered 36.5 points over the two-day meet including 14.5 points on Saturday's second day of action.

Senior Kristopher Joint and and sophomore Albert Myers earned 10 more points for the Hounds in the long jump with both placing in the top eight. Joint was the runner-up with a leap of 7.00 meters (22 feet, 11 ¾ inches) on his final jump of the preliminaries to earn eight points while Myers placed seventh at 6.58 meters (21 feet, 7 ¼ inches) also on his last leap of the opening flights.

Freshman jumper Kahron Walker scored Moravian's final 2.5 points as he tied for sixth in the high jump, clearing 1.98 meters (six feet, six inches) to tie his season-best mark.

Senior David Cariello began the action on Saturday with another PR in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.48 seconds to pick up 865 points in the indoor heptathlon. Unfortunately, Cariello did not record a height in the next event, the pole vault, before finishing with a time of 3:19.13 in the 1,000-meter run for 489 points. Cariello's total of 4,003 points placed him seventh in the event, picking up two points for the Greyhounds in the team scoring.

The Greyhounds had two other competitors on Saturday as freshman Cory Taggert placed 27th in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.94 while freshman Austin Gardener tied his season-best time in the 200-meter dash in 23.10 seconds to place 35th.

Joint and sophomore Ryan Karnopp will find out on Monday if they officially make the field for next weekend's NCAA Division III National Championships in Lincoln, Nebraska. The top 15 in each event on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list will compete at the NCAA Championships. After the ECAC meet, Joint is second in the triple jump and ninth in the long jump while Karnopp is tied for seventh in the pole vault.
