Women Aim for 7th Straight Landmark Championship Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College women's indoor track & field team is aiming for its seventh consecutive Landmark Conference Indoor Championship on Saturday, March 1 in the 2014 meet at Susquehanna University starting at 11:00 a.m.

The Greyhounds have won all six indoor Landmark Conference titles since the conference began in 2007-08, and the women have also captured the Landmark outdoor title for six straight years as well. Third-year Head Coach Jesse Baumann has won a total of 12 conference titles since taking over Moravian's track & field and cross country programs.

"We've had two consecutive strong meets at the Armory and Kutztown, with our jumpers, starting to take off, along with our junior sprinters, distance runners, and Jenny Kratch, just to name a few," explained Baumann. "Susquehanna is going to be a very strong challenge for us, though. They're strong throughout all the events this year, especially with athletes like Jasmine Mitchell, Eryn Spangler, Ashley West, and Cameron Weaver having some great indoor seasons. They're deep and will really test our team on Saturday."

Moravian, which is looking to win its 21st indoor conference title, will be led by its junior class. Junior Brielle Sutter currently holds the second best time in the Landmark in the 400-meter dash at 1:00.86. Sutter has also run a 26.93 in the 200-meter dash and an 8.32 in the 60-meter dash. Classmate Morgan Redmond currently holds the top time in the conference at 9.40 in the 60-meter hurdles. Redmond also has a time of 8.33 in the 60-meter dash to go with her time of 1:01.58 in the 400-meter dash, which ranks third in the conference, and a 27.35 in the 200-meter dash.

Sutter and Redmond also return from last year's 4x200-meter relay that won the Landmark title. Redmond will be joined in the 60-meter hurdles by freshman Rebecca Flitcroft and sophomore Meghan Newman , who have the second and third fastest times at 9.97 seconds and 10.03 seconds.

Junior Brianna Wright has the Greyhounds' top time in the 60-meter dash in 8.08 seconds, and she'll also be a competitor in the 200-meter dash and relays. Sophomore Corinne Glass, last year's Co-Rookie of the Year indoors, has been battling injuries this season but is rounding back into form for the championship meet.

Sophomore Christelle Reglas leads the conference in the long jump at 5.30 meters (17 feet, 4 ¾ inches), and she is followed closely by freshman teammate Lauren Suelke at 5.18 meters (17 feet). Suelke has the top distance in the Landmark in the triple jump at 10.97 meters (36 feet), and she is also fourth in the high jump 1.45 meters (four feet, nine inches) and fourth in the 60-meter dash in 8.29 seconds. Freshman Kiara Bright is third in the triple jump.

Moravian has four of the top five heights in the pole vault heading into the indoor championships. Junior Dana Fineman leads the way with a height of 3.45 meters (11 feet, 4 ¼ inches) while junior Hailey Kester is second at 3.20 meters (10 feet, six inches). Senior Amanda Smilgis is fourth at 3.00 meters (nine feet, 10 inches) while freshman Casey Raymond is fifth at 2.74 meters (eight feet, 11 ¾ inches) and also set to compete in the long jump.
