Suelke Picked for 2nd Landmark Athlete of the Week Award

TOWSON, Md. – Freshman Lauren Suelke of the Moravian College women's indoor track & field team has been named the Landmark Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this winter after her performance last weekend.

The Greyhound rookie clinched a trip to the 2014 ECAC Indoor Championships by passing the automatic qualifying mark of 10.85 meters (35' 7.25") in the triple jump. Her leap of 10.97 meters (36') at the Lafayette-Rider Winter Games at the New York City Armory on Saturday was good for a third place finish among Division I and II athletes.

"We had a great feeling about Lauren's potential coming into the season," head coach Jesse Baumann said. "Now she's beginning to realize that potential while eliminating some of the mistakes from her first couple of meets. She learns very quickly and, fortunately for our program, I still think the best is yet to come for Lauren in a few different events."

Suelke owns the longest triple jump (10.85 meters) and the best high jump (1.45 meters) of the season for the Moravian women. The freshman will also be competing in the ECAC Championships in the long jump after qualifying with a mark of 5.18 meters (17') at the Tiger Open at Princeton University in January.

The rookie also has a career-best mark of 8.29 seconds in the 60-meter dash, just two-tenths of a second short of ECAC-qualifying time.

Suelke and the Greyhounds are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 22 for the Kutztown University Indoor Last Chance Qualifier. Moravian also has a meet scheduled the following day, Sunday, Feb. 23 at the Princeton University Invitational.
