Suelke Selected as Landmark Women's Field Athlete of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Freshman jumper Lauren Suelke has been selected the Landmark Conference Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for her performance last week.

Suelke had a pair of top-ten finishes at the non-scoring Princeton University Tiger Open this past Saturday as Moravian competed in its first meet of the spring semester and for the first time since the team's season-opening  meet on December 7.

Suelke placed fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 10.61 meters (34 feet, 9 3/4 inches) on her second of six attempts, and she finished seventh in the long jump with an ECAC qualifying mark of 5.18 meters (17 feet) on her last jump in the finals.

"Lauren has a tremendous amount of talent," stated Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "The challenge with her has been working on some flaws in her take off, which we're starting to correct and seeing big gains in right now. She's jumping consistently and hitting some big marks."

Coach Baumann felt that Suelke may have had a better mark in the long jump on Saturday but to keep the meet moving along due to the weather, Princeton was only marking one jump for each competitor under 5.30 meters.

Suelke and the rest of her Moravian teammates return to action on Saturday, February 1 when they head over South Mountain to compete in the John Covert Classic hosted by Lehigh University at Rauch Fieldhouse.
