Women Compete at Swarthmore Final Qualifer

SWARTHMORE, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's track & field team participated in the Swarthmore College Final Qualifier Monday evening.

Freshman Kiara Bright took third in the triple jump with a distance of 10.85 meters (35 feet, 7.25 inches), just five centimeters shy of the ECAC qualifying mark while freshman Lauren Suelke was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.10 meters (16 feet, 8.75 inches). Senior Amanda Smilgis was seventh in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.10 meters (10 feet, two inches).

Sophomore Karlee Corvasce placed eighth in the javelin with a toss of 32.68 meters (107 feet, three inches) while sophomore Tyler Clore took 11th at 31.08 meters (102 feet). Freshman Jackie Finnegan finished ninth in the discus with a toss of 34.90 meters (114 feet, 6.25 inches).

On the track, Moravian's 4x100 meter relay squad of juniors Brianna Wright, Morgan Redmond and Brielle Sutter and sophomore Corinne Glass turned in an ECAC qualifying time of 48.30 seconds to finish fourth.

Freshman Meghan Newman was 11th in the 100 meter hurdles in 16.07 seconds while senior Jennifer Smilgis was 52nd in the 1,500 meter run in 5:09.99.

Moravian is slated to return to action at the 2014 ECAC Division III Outdoor Championships being hosted by RPI on Thursday and Friday, May 15 and 16.
