WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The Moravian College men's soccer squad saw its 2019 season come to a close with a 5-3 loss to No. 21 and top seed The Catholic University of America in a Landmark Conference Semifinal match Tuesday evening.

The fourth seeded Greyhounds finish the year at 11-7-1, the program's first double-digit win season since 2002, and the Blue and Grey reached conference postseason play in back-to-back years for the first time since 2002 and 2003.

Tuesday evening, the Cardinals jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with goals in the third and eighth minutes, the latter coming on a penalty kick. The Greyhounds had a penalty kick in the tenth minute with sophomore midfielder Anthony Nagy being stopped for the first time this year after making his first five penalty kicks of the year. Moravian would get on the scoreboard in the 29th minute when senior Akinori Mollenthiel headed in a direct kick from junior forward Ethan Blakely after a foul. The tally was Mollenthiel's third of the season and the fourth of his career. Catholic answered eight minutes later with another goal to head to the intermission with a 3-1 edge.

The Greyhounds pulled within a goal again in the second half when Blakely netted his fourth goal of the season and seventh of his career on a long free kick in the 59th minute. However, the Cardinals pushed the edge back to two goals just 40 seconds later, and Catholic scored again in the 84th minute on another penalty kick to push it to a 5-2 advantage. Blakely struck again in the 87th minute when he took a long through ball from junior defender Jared Wisdom and put it into the back of the net.

Moravian junior keeper Michael Bone registered three saves for the Blue and Grey, and he also had help from his defense that cleared a shot away in the second minute of the match.

The Greyhounds look to have 27 players return next fall when the squad begins to prepare for the 2020 campaign.
