Moravian Honors 2020 Men's Soccer Seniors

Men's soccer seniors Jon Matthews and Yamil Yunez.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- With the final semester of their college experience moved remotely by COVID-19, the Moravian College Department of Athletics & Recreation today honors the two senior members of the Greyhounds' men's soccer team that missed out on their traditional career-ending senior experiences.

The duo helped the Greyhounds to a 34-25-12 record the last four seasons and the first two Landmark Conference Tournament appearances in program history in 2018 and 2019.

Midfielder Jon Matthews was a four-year letterwinner for the Hounds. He played in 51 career matches, starting five, with one goal. Jon is the son of Kim and Jon Matthews, and he is majoring in sports management at Moravian.

"Jon was the only fourth year senior we had on the roster this year," commented Head Coach Bob Wilkinson. "He is a hardworking midfielder who loved stepping on the field to represent his school. He was proud to have appeared in over 50 games for the Greyhounds during his career. He took great pride in his fitness and was always ready to play. His confidence and commitment made him a pleasure to coach."

Goalie Yamil Yunez was a two-year letterwinner for the Greyhounds. He played in eight matches with 240 minutes in goal, 13 saves, 0.75 goals-against average and a 1-0 record. Yamil is the son of Diana and Yamil Yunez, and he is majoring in business management at Moravian.

"Yamil had a great impact on our team and a great impact on our program after joining the team during the spring of his sophomore year," noted Wilkinson. "His passion for the game, the team and especially his teammates was immeasurable. He worked hard every day and was always ready when called upon. He is very influential and much of our team's success can be attributed to his leadership. He has been a pleasure to coach."

Graphics on both seniors will be posted throughout the day on Moravian's social media accounts.
