BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball squad defeated visiting Neumann University, 3-1, in non-conference action in Johnston Hall Wednesday evening as the Greyhounds celebrated Senior Night in their final home match of the 2024 season.
How It Happened
- The Knights jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the opening set before the Blue & Grey rallied back to knot the score at 7-7. Neumann moved back in front 11-7, and the Knights had a 22-19 edge. Moravian answered by scoring nine of the last 12 points to earn a 26-24 set victory for a 1-0 lead
- The second set saw Neumann race out to a 12-3 advantage. The Knights still led 22-14 when the Hounds started to rally; however, Moravian came up short as Neumann took the set, 25-23, to even the match at 1-1
- The Blue & Grey had an early 3-1 edge in the third set, but the Knights countered back and took a 9-6 lead. The Greyhounds rallied back and were up 24-13 before Neumann scored nine straight points. Moravian eventually scored the winning set point for a 25-22 victory and a 2-1 lead overall
- The Knight jumped out to a 7-2 advantage in the fourth set. The Hounds slowly closed the gap to knot the set at 16-16 before moving out to a 20-16 edge. Neumann pushed back to make it 23-21, but the Greyhounds scored the final two points for a 25-21 set win to capture the match
- Prior to the match, Moravian honored seniors opposite hitter Makenzie Krasley, setter Emily Solomon and outside hitter Jenna Deegan in their final home career contest
Inside the Numbers
- Sophomore middle blocker Payton Reuber led the Blue & Grey with 14 kills in the match while Deegan, Krasley and sophomore outside hitter Gabbie Reigner all had 11 kills. Deegan added 13 digs and a block while Krasley contributed right digs, three blocks and three service aces and Reigner had 14 digs and a pair of service aces
- Freshman middle blocker Kate McBrierty posted four kills, three service aces, three digs and a pair of blocks while junior setter Ally Plitnick had three kills to go along with 32 assists and 11 digs
- Sophomore libero Sam Love registered 27 digs and four assists while sophomore defensive specialist Molly Hughes recorded eight digs and sophomore defensive specialist Morgan Hughes had three digs.
