Hounds Fall in Tri-Match at Montclair State to End the 2024 Season

MONTCLAIR, N.J. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball squad fell to Misericordia University, 3-2, and host Montclair State University, 3-0, in a non-conference tri-match on Saturday to end the 2024 regular season.

How It Happened – Misericordia

  • The opening set versus the Cougars went back-and-forth with the Hounds holding a 16-13 edge before Misericordia moved ahead and captured a 25-22 set victory
  • The Blue & Grey jumped out to a 9-3 edge in the second game on the way to a 25-17 set win, and Moravian raced out to a 6-0 lead in the third set as the Greyhounds won 25-21 to take a 2-1 edge
  • The fourth set was close and tied at 11-11 when Misericordia pulled ahead and earned a 25-20 victory to even the match at 2-2
  • The Cougars captured the fifth set by a 15-8 score to win the match
  • Sophomore outside hitter Gabby Reigner led the Greyhounds with 13 kills and ten digs while sophomore middle hitter Payton Reuber had nine kills and a pair of blocks
  • Freshman middle blocker Kate McBrierty registered eight kills while sophomore opposite hitter Makenzie Krasley contributed five kills and four service aces and senior outside hitter Jenna Deegan posted four kills and three digs
  • Junior setter Ally Plitnick paced the Hounds with 31 assists and 14 digs while sophomore libero Sam Love added 16 digs, five assists and a pair of service aces
  • Sophomore defensive specialist Molly Hughes had 13 digs while sophomore defensive specialist Morgan Hughes recorded 12 digs and three service aces

How It Happened – Montclair State

  • The first set with the host Red Hawks was tied at 5-5 before Montclair State pulled away for a 25-17 set victory
  • Moravian held an 11-10 edge in the second set; however, the Red Hawks countered for a 25-19 set win
  • Montclair State pulled out to a 21-14 lead in the third set before the Blue & Grey rallied. The Red Hawks did earn a 25-23 set win to capture the match
  • Sophomore outside hitter Kelly Tempalsky led the Greyhounds with seven kills and four digs while Reigner posted five kills and four digs
  • McBrierty recorded four kills and a pair of blocks while freshman hitter Ella Kilko had four kills and two digs
  • Junior outside hitter Caroline Melillo and sophomore hitter Julia Zaprazny each had three kills with Melillo adding seven digs
  • Plitnick registered 21 assists and ten digs while Love contributed 19 digs, six assists and three service aces and Molly Hughes had six digs
