ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball squad fell to host Elizabethtown College, 3-2, to begin the 2024 Landmark Conference campaign Friday evening.
How It Happened
- The opening set saw the Blue Jays jump out to an 8-3 lead before the Greyhounds rallied to knot the score at 12-12. The Blue & Grey pushed ahead for a 21-17 lead, and Moravian was up 24-21. Elizabethtown countered with four straight points to send the set past 25 points. The Greyhounds would eventually take the set 28-26
- The Blue Jays scored the first four points of the second set, and Elizabethtown controlled the set on the way to a 25-11 set win to even the match at 1-1
- The Hounds took an early lead in the third game, and the Blue & Grey were up 12-7 on the way to a 25-19 set victory to move back ahead, 2-1
- The fourth set went back-and-forth, and the game was tied at 8-8. Elizabethtown went on a 7-1 run to head on to a 25-14 set win and even the contest again at 2-2
- The Blue Jays took a quick 3-0 lead in the deciding game before the Greyhounds tied the set at 4-4. Elizabethtown moved out to a 12-7 advantage when Moravian posted a 5-0 run to knot the game again at 12-12. The Blue Jays won the final three points to win the match
Inside the Numbers
- Sophomore middle blocker Payton Reuber led the Greyhounds with 13 kills to go with three blocks while sophomore outside hitter Gabbie Reigner had 12 kills and 19 digs
- Senior outside hitter Jenna Deegan recorded ten kills, six blocks, six digs and three service aces while freshman middle blocker Kate McBrierty posted seven kills, six blocks and three digs
- Senior opposite hitter Makenzie Krasley registered four kills while sophomore outside hitter Kelly Tempalsky added three kills
- Junior setter Ally Plitnick contributed 38 assists, 15 digs, three kills and a pair of blocks while sophomore libero Sam Love had 35 digs and seven assists
- Sophomore defensive specialist Molly Hughes posted 11 digs while sophomore defensive specialist Morgan Hughes recorded four digs and freshman defensive specialist Madalyn Kocsis had three digs
