BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball squad kept its hopes for a berth in the 2024 Landmark Conference Tournament alive with a 3-1 victory over visiting The Catholic University of America in conference action Friday evening in Johnston Hall.
How It Happened
- The Cardinals opened an early 5-2 lead in the opening set, and Catholic stretched the advantage to 14-8. The Cardinals still had a six-point edge at 16-10 before the Hounds rallied to knot the score at 17-17. Moravian eventually moved ahead 23-18 before winning set 25-21 to earn the set win
- Catholic jumped out to quick 6-2 edge in the second set; however, the Blue & Grey rallied again to knot the game at 10-10. The Cardinals countered and pushed back ahead 19-13 only to see Moravian come back and tie the set again at 19-19. However, this time, Catholic would capture the set 25-23 to knot the overall score at 1-1
- The Greyhounds had the early lead at 4-2 in the third set before Catholic took a 6-4 edge. The set was tied at 7-7 when the Cardinals moved back in front to lead 17-12. Catholic had a 24-21 advantage when Moravian scored six of the final seven points to earn a 27-25 set win and take a 2-1 lead
- The Cardinals started the fourth set with a 4-2 edge, and Catholic led 10-8 before the Hounds slowly pulled away for a 25-17 set victory to clinch the match
- With the victory, the Greyhounds head into the final day of the conference regular season needing a victory over Goucher College and a Lycoming College victory over Drew University to clinch a berth in the 2024 Landmark Conference Tournament
Inside the Numbers
- Sophomore middle blocker Payton Reuber led Moravian with 20 kills to go with five blocks and five digs while senior outside hitter Jenna Deegan added 12 kills, 12 digs and four blocks
- Senior opposite hitter Makenzie Krasley contributed ten kills and three digs while sophomore outside hitter Gabbie Reigner had 11 digs, three service aces and a pair of kills
- Junior setter Ally Plitnick led the Greyhounds with 40 assists to go with eight digs, four service aces and two kills while sophomore libero Sam Love added 17 digs, three service aces and two assists
- Sophomore defensive specialist Molly Hughes registered 13 digs while sophomore outside hitter Kelly Tempalsky had one kills and a dig
- The victory for Moravian over Catholic was the Hounds first over the Cardinals since a 3-2 win on October 28, 2017
