Stewart & Wright Sweep Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week Honors

TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian College track and field teams swept the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week honors as senior sprinter Brianna Wright and freshman thrower Ciara Stewart took home the honors for the women after competing at the Collegeville Classic at Ursinus and the Tiger Open at Princeton University this past weekend.

Wright placed 15th with a ECAC qualifying time of 8.04 seconds in the 60-meter dash at Princeton on Saturday afternoon while also finishing 25th in the 200-meter dash in 27.68 seconds.

"Brianna definitely put in the work over break, so she's where we'd like her to be at this point in the season in terms of her training," stated Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "She's been working on aspects of her start, and it certainly improved over the past few days and at Princeton. She's over a tenth of a second faster than she was this time last year, so we feel confident she'll eclipse the 8-second barrier really soon."

Stewart claimed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 11.48 meters (37 feet, 8 inches) at Ursinus Friday evening. The meet was the Greyhounds first action since the season-opening Fast Times Before Finals Meet at Lehigh University back on December 5-6.

"Ciara had a really nice consistent series," commented Baumann. "It's tough in a technical event to take the break that we had between Lehigh and this meet to come back strong, but she just set a substantial college PR despite that hiatus. She only missed ECAC qualifying by a couple of inches, and we're confident she'll get there within the next two weeks."

The Greyhounds are set to compete next on Saturday, January 31 at Lehigh University in the Covert Classic.
