Stewart Named Corvias/ECAC DIII South Women's Rookie of the Week

DANBURY, Conn. --- Moravian College freshman thrower Ciara Stewart has added another award for the indoor season as she was named the Corvias/ECAC Division III South Women's Indoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week for her performance last weekend.

Stewart posted an ECAC qualifying distance and career-best mark of 11.84 meters (38-10.25) in the shot put as she finished in third place at the non-scoring 23rd Annual John Covert Classic at Lehigh University's Rauch Fieldhouse. Earlier this week, Stewart was named the Landmark Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive Week.

"Ciara has been really progressing her first two months as a collegiate student-athlete so we knew she would hit the ECAC mark, it was just a matter of time as to when it would happen," commented Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "At Lehigh, she hit that qualifying distance on the first throw of the meet, so it just gives us more optimism for the remainder of the indoor season. Now it's a matter of moving onto the next objective, which is the 40-foot barrier. We think she has a chance to reach that mark during this indoor season."

Moravian is scheduled to head to the New York City Armory to take part in the Indoor Select hosted by Ramapo College of New Jersey on Saturday, February 7 beginning at 5:00 p.m.
