Brockett Wins 5K in Ramapo Indoor Select at NYC Armory

NEW YORK, N.Y. --- The Moravian College women's indoor track & field squad participated in the Ramapo College of New Jersey Indoor Select at the New York City Armory Saturday evening in a meet that went until after 10:00 p.m.

The Greyhounds finished third of the 19 teams that earned points with 49 total points. NCAA Division II Texas A&M-Kingsville won the meet with 82 points. Moravian had one individual event winner and six ECAC qualifying marks on the women's' side.

Sophomore Meg Brockett led the women's team by winning the 5,000-meter run in an ECAC qualifying and career best time of 18:01.94. Her time was 1:35 better than her previous fastest time, and is the 10th best time in school history. It also moves Brockett to 20th on the Track & Field Results Reporting System to set the fields for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships next month.

Senior Emily Lambright also had a career-best and ECAC qualifying time in the 5K, finishing second to Brockett in 18:14.12. Junior Corinne Glass turned in an ECAC qualifying time of 26.26 seconds in the 200-meter dash, placing seventh in the race.

Senior Dana Fineman also had a career night in the pole vault, finishing second at an ECAC and career-best height of 3.70 meters (12-1.5). Fineman surpassed her previous career mark by nearly a foot and moved into a tie for eighth on the TFRRS list.

For the third straight meet, freshman Ciara Stewart set a personal best in the shot put, beating 40 feet for the first time with an ECAC qualifying mark of 12.39 meters (40-7.75) which placed her third in the event.

The Greyhounds' 4x400-meter relay team of Glass, seniors Brianna Wright and Morgan Redmond and freshman Casie Cronk was seventh with an ECAC qualifying mark of 4:06.50, the fifth-best time in school history and taking nearly six seconds off of the quartet's time from two weeks ago.

In other track results, Wright was 14th in the 60-meter dash in 8.07 seconds while Redmond finished 17th in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.76 seconds. Sophomore Sarah Hughes took 10th in the mile run with a time of 5:29.20 while freshman Christine Hughes was 14th in the mile in 5:44.39. Senior Devon Bedell was 13th in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:22.32.

Senior Jenny Kratch was the runner-up in the 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 14.01 meters (45-11.75) while sophomore Jackie Finnegan placed ninth at 11.54 meters (37-10.5). Junior Abbey Clark was 11th in the shot put at 10.23 meters (33-6.75).

Sophomore Kiara Bright was fifth in the long jump with an ECAC qualifying leap of 10.87 meters (35-8) while freshman Carly Thorpe was 10th at 9.79 meters (32-1.5). Cronk was eighth in the high jump, clearing 1.55 meters (5-1).

The track & field teams will be back in action next Saturday, February 14 at the Susquehanna University Invitational beginning at 10:00 a.m. in Selinsgrove.
