Women Hit 10 ECAC Marks at Coach P Open

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's track & field squad hosted the 6th Annual Coach P Open on Friday evening and Saturday at Timothy Breidegam Track and Rooco Calvo Field with over 1,500 student-athletes competing in the event named for longtime head coach Doug Pollard.

The non-scoring invitational featured the Greyhounds earning a trio of first-place event finishes and 10 ECAC qualifying marks. Senior Emily Lambright won the 1,500-meter run in 4:49.84 while the women's other two victories were in the relays.

The 4x100-meter relay squad of seniors Brianna Wright, Brielle Sutter and Morgan Redmond and junior Corinne Glass had an ECAC qualifying mark of 48.06 seconds, just three thousandths of a seconds shy of the meet record. The time puts the quartet at fifth in the nation on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list. The top 15 relay teams at the end of the season will compete at the NCAA Division III National Championships in late May.

Sutter, Redmond and Glass combined with freshman Casie Cronk to help the Greyhounds win the 4x400-meter relay as well with an ECAC qualifying time of 4:03.93. Wright took second in the 100-meter dash with an ECAC qualifying time of 12.45 seconds while Sutter was third in the 200-meter dash in an ECAC qualifying time of 25.69 seconds. Redmond was the runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles with an ECAC qualifying mark of 1:05.83 while Glass finished fifth in the 400-meter dash in 59.97 seconds.

In the jumps, sophomore Kiara Bright was fifth in the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying mark of 10.99 meters (36-0.75) while Cronk and freshman Melissa Cheong were tied for fifth in the high jump at 1.54 meters (5-0.5). Sophomore Lauren Suelke was ninth in the triple jump at 10.80 meters (35-5.25).

In the throws, freshman Mary Kate Duncan was the runner-up in the javelin on Saturday with an ECAC qualifying toss of 42.56 meters (139-7), moving up to 12th on the TFRRS list as the top 22 individuals will go to the NCAA Division III Championships in May. Freshman Nicole Capuano also turned in an ECAC qualifying toss in the javelin as she finished seventh at 36.42 meters (119-6).

Freshman Ciara Stewart posted an ECAC qualifying mark of 11.75 meters (38-6.750 in the shot put on Friday evening while junior Abbey Clark was ninth at 10.66 meters (34-11.75). Also on Friday, senior Jenny Kratch was fourth in the hammer throw with an ECAC qualifying toss of 43.64 meters (143-2) while sophomore Jackie Finnegan was ninth at 39.39 meters (129-3). Freshman Trista Cunningham was ninth in the discus with a toss of 33.71 meters (110-7).

Back on the track for the women, sophomore Meg Brockett was the runner-up to Lambright in the 1,500-meter run in 4:54.75 while sophomore Sarah Hughes was seventh in 5:00.76. Senior Devon Bedell took fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:55.52 while freshman Christine Hughes was fifth in 12:54.27 and freshman Kirsten Lebo was seventh in 12:58.89.

Sophomore Meghan Newman was tenth in the preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles in 16.16 seconds.

Moravian is set to return to action at home again next weekend as the team hosts the Greyhound Invitational at Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field. Action begins at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 18 and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 19.
