Doug Pollard Selected to 2015 MAC Hall of Fame Class

ANNVILLE, Pa. --- Former Moravian College men's and women's track & field coach Doug Pollard has been selected as part of the fourth class to be inducted into the Middle Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame announced by the MAC office Tuesday.

"Doug Pollard is certainly a deserving person to be entering the MAC Hall of Fame," stated Director of Athletics Scot Dapp. "He built our track and field programs from the ground up and turn them into championship programs and those programs remain at that level today. Doug was a positive influence on hundreds of student-athletes in both football and track. Just mention his named to anyone that he coached, anyone that worked with him, or even anyone who knew him and you will evoke a smile."

The MAC of which Moravian was a member from 1945 until 2007 established a Hall of Fame as part of the celebration of its 100th anniversary in 2012-13. Moravian's Rocco Calvo and Harvey "Gil" Gillespie were two of a 36-member inaugural class selected in 2012-13 from current and former MAC member institutions while Kathy Beck DeKorte '92 was honored in 2013-14. All four Moravian MAC Hall of Fame selections are also members of Moravian's Athletic Hall of Fame.

Pollard, who was inducted Moravian's Hall of Fame in November 2013, served as head coach of the men's and women's track and field teams from 1984 until he passed away in 2007. He guided over 150 student-athletes to appearances at the NCAA Division III indoor and outdoor national championships, with 69 earning All-American accolades.

Pollard's teams won 14 Middle Atlantic Conference indoor team titles and 16 MAC outdoor titles. Of those championships, the women won 11 of the last 12 indoor MAC Championships and 13 of the last 15 outdoor MAC Championships prior to the school joining the Landmark Conference. Pollard's track & field teams had three top ten finishes at the NCAA national meet, two by the men's program and one by the women's squad. Eight of the individual national champions in Moravian history prior to 2008 were won by six Pollard-coached track & field athletes.

He was the 2007 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division III Mideast Region Women's Coach of the Year, and he was a two-time All-Region and six-time MAC Coach of the Year. Pollard also served as an assistant football coach through the 1990 season while at Moravian.

Pollard was a 1972 graduate of Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, and he was inducted into Kutztown's Hall of Fame in 1987.

Moravian will be planning an on-campus ceremony to honor Pollard during the 7th Annual Coach P Open on Saturday, April 9, 2016.
