Men Win 5 of 6 Events on Opening Day of Landmark Championships

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's track & field squad is in first place after the opening day Saturday of the 2015 Landmark Conference Championships being hosted by Susquehanna University.

Moravian had champions in five of the six events final events on Saturday, and the Greyhounds scored 105 points while the host Crusaders are second with 78 points. Juniata is in third place after the opening day with 26 points.

Senior Dillon Farrell started the meet by winning the 10,000-meter run with a time of 32:26.24 just 1.24 seconds off of the ECAC qualifying mark. Farrell was also fifth in the 1,500-meter run in 4:02.50 while senior Alec Duncan placed fourth in 4:02.27 and freshman Robert Cahill finished seventh in a time of 4:05.54.

Senior Parker Munson won a pair of titles on Saturday, capturing the discus with an ECAC qualifying toss of 45.25 meters (148-5) and winning the shot put with an ECAC qualifying mark of 14.66 meters (48-1.25). Senior Jeffrey Gallagher placed second in the discus at 41.64 meters (136-7) while freshman Jack Lippin was third at 39.41 meters (129-3), sophomore Greg Cahill finished seventh with a toss of 38.03 (124-9) and sophomore Ljuboslav Boskic placed eighth at 37.25 meters (122-2). Cahill also took third in the shot put with a mark of 13.57 meters (44-6.25) while Boskic finished fourth at 13.13 meters (43-1), Lippin placed fifth at 13.01 meters (42-8.25) and sophomore Matt Jones took sixth with a toss of 12.90 meters (42-4).

Junior Ryan Karnopp won the pole vault for a second straight year with a height of 4.55 meters (14-11). Junior Gavin Bailey captured first place in the long jump with a career-best and ECAC qualifying leap of 7.19 meters (23-7.25). The distance moves Bailey to tenth in the nation on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list, and the top 20 males in each event will compete at the 2015 NCAA Division III National Championships later this month. Sophomore Kahron Walker was third in the long jump at 6.69 meters (21-11.5), just one centimeter shy of the ECAC qualifying mark, while senior Chris Ossont finished sixth at 6.49 meters (21-3.5).

In preliminary events on Saturday, Bailey turned in the best time in the 100-meter dash with an ECAC qualifying mark of 11.00 seconds, and he'll be joined in the finals by sophomore Matt Barnett, who was second in 11.16 seconds, sophomore Austin Gardener, who finished as the third automatic qualifier in 11.27 seconds, and freshman Eric Morton, who had the fastest non-automatic qualifying time of 11.23 seconds. Gardener also qualified for the finals in the 200-meter dash in 22.63 seconds while Morton qualified with a 22.78 time in his heat, senior Travis Dorsa ran a qualifying time of 22.60 seconds and Barnett turned in a qualifying time of 23.05 seconds.

Sophomore Tyler Dwyer made the finals of the 400-meter dash with a qualifying time of 50.86 seconds while junior Ryan Sickler, freshman Jordan Sweeney and senior Mike Hofmann each reached the finals of the 110-meter high hurdles with times of 15.82 seconds, 18.32 seconds and 19.16 seconds.

The final day of the 2015 Landmark Conference Championships will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 3 at Susquehanna.
