Ossont Named Landmark Senior Scholar-Athlete for Men's Indoor Track & Field

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior Chris Ossont has been selected as the 2015 Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete for Men's Indoor Track & Field.

The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics. The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors and sports information directors. Chosen at the conclusion of each sport season, the six winter honorees are being announced this week.

"Chris is a great recipient for this award.  First and foremost he is very strong student in the classroom, he is involved with a number of other activities and community service projects on campus, participated in a summer student research project, and recently accepted an excellent graduate school opportunity to further his education after Moravian," stated Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "He has been a great athlete for us as well, qualifying for three ECAC meets in the triple jump and recently won that event at Landmarks in February along with setting a huge lifetime PR in the long jump to score 14 points for the team in his last indoor conference meet. Chris is very focused, organized, detail-oriented, and driven which are reasons for how he has been such a successful student-athlete for us here at Moravian."

Ossont earned All-Conference First Team this past winter by placing first in the triple jump at the Landmark Conference Indoor Championships while leading the Greyhounds to the team title, their fourth in Ossont's career. In March, Ossont finished 13th in the triple jump at the ECAC Division III Indoor Championships. He was also on the 2014 Landmark All-Conference Second Team in the triple jump last May, and the team has a pair of outdoor Landmark titles.

Off the track, Ossont has a 3.46 GPA while majoring in English. Ossont is a three-time selection to the Landmark Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll and a five-time Landmark Academic Honor Roll selection including outdoor track & field.

When he isn't competing or in class, Ossont has been active around the Moravian campus. He worked on the Resident Life Staff, serving as a student assistant, and Ossont has also been the treasurer for IMPACT at Moravian.
