Farrell Honored as Landmark Men's Outdoor Track & Field Senior Scholar-Athlete

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior Dillon Farrell has been selected as the 2015 Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete for Men's Outdoor Track & Field.

The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics. The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors and sports information directors. Chosen at the conclusion of each sport season, the eight spring honorees are being announced last week and this week.

"Dillon exemplifies what a student-athlete should be. He has always put academics as a top priority, often times at the expense of his running.  He's extremely passionate about Nursing, and has been an extremely devoted student first and foremost while here," commented Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann. "He has missed practices, meets, and other team events due to clinical hours, preceptorships, interviews, or other obligations with Moravian's nursing program.  He has maintained a strong GPA throughout his four years here in what is a very demanding major.  He has still made time to excel as an athlete as evidenced by the All American award he earned in cross country, which again shows that he knew how to manage his time and energy while a student athlete here at Moravian."

Farrell earned a gold and silver medal at the 2015 Landmark Outdoor Championships as the Greyhounds won their third team title in the last four years. He won the 10,000 meter run for the second time in his career outdoors to earn Landmark All-Conference First Team honors, and he was the runner-up in the 5,000-meter run to land a spot on the All-Conference Second Team. Overall, Farrell had two first places, four runner-ups and a total of 10 top five finishes outdoors during his career. He was the ECAC Division III Champion in the 10,000 meters in 2012, and he holds the Landmark Conference and Moravian record in the event.

During his indoor track & field campaigns, Farrell was a two-time champion in 2014 while earning Track Athlete of the Year honors, and he added nine top five finishes. On the cross country course, Farrell was a two-time Landmark Conference Champion in 2012 and 2013 to be the Landmark Runner of the Year, and he became Moravian's first-ever male cross country All-American with a 17th place finish at the 2014 meet last November. During his career, Farrell was named a Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week 21 times, and he helped the program to nine team conference championships.

Off of the track and course, Farrell graduated with a 3.49 GPA while majoring in nursing. Farrell is a three-time selection to the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll and a nine-time Landmark Academic Honor Roll selection including cross country and indoor track & Field. Farell was selected as Moravian's Senior Male Athlete of the Year this past May.

When he wasn't competing or in class, Farrell was active around the Moravian campus. He founded and was president of MoCo for Coco, an organization that raised funds to fight cancer in children, and Farrell also was a member of the Student Nurses Association and worked with Moravian's Habitat for Humanity group.
