Bailey Named Landmark Men's Field Athlete of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College junior Gavin Bailey has been named the Landmark Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week for his performance this past weekend at the Coach P Open hosted by the Greyhounds.

Bailey posted an outdoor career-best mark of 6.90 meters (22-7.75) in the long jump as he finished third with an ECAC qualifying distance. Bailey also excelled on the track on Saturday, placing third in the 400-meter hurdles with an ECAC qualifying time of 55.95 seconds that puts him 19th on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list with the top 20 men in each event heading to the NCAA Division III National Championships in May. Bailey also ran a leg of Moravian's 4x400-meter relay that finished sixth in 3:28.69.

"Gavin is extremely talented at a number of events so the challenge has been figuring out which events to focus on to best maximize his potential," explained Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "In his senior year of high school, he started to make huge improvements in the long jump so that got added to the list of events when he got here, and then this year in particular he really took off with it, jumping 7.00 meters to win conference indoors, and then jumping his second best mark ever at 6.90 at our meet on Saturday. Although the 400 hurdles will still be the focus for him outdoors, now that he's ranked 19th in the country, we'll certainly continue to work on trying to get him to NCAAs in that as well."

Moravian will host the Greyhound Invitational at Timothy Breidegam Track & Rocco Calvo Field on Friday and Saturday, April 17 and 18 with competition beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Friday and 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
