Walker Honored as Landmark Men's Field Athlete of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College sophomore jumper Kahron Walker has been honored as the first Landmark Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the 2014-15 indoor season for his performance last weekend.

Walker was one of three Greyhounds to hit ECAC qualifying marks at the season-opening Fast Times Before Finals meet hosted by Lehigh University over at Rauch Fieldhouse. Walker took sixth in the high jump at an ECAC qualifying height of 2.00 meters (6 feet, 6.75 inches), which is a career-best for him and ties for second in Moravian's indoor history. The mark is also tied for the fifth highest clearance in Landmark history. In his other event, Walker finished 14th in the long jump at 6.21 meters (20 feet, 4.5 inches).

"Kahron cleared 1.90m at this meet a year ago, and started off 2014 four inches higher which is obviously a great sign," stated Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "He had a few good attempts at the 2.05m bar, and if he can clear that this season, he'll be getting close to qualifying for NCAAs. He also had some good attempts in the long jump around 6.40 meters, but at this meet, if you didn't surpass 6.50 meters after your first jump; it wasn't recorded, so unfortunately those jumps didn't show up in the results. He worked extremely hard in the offseason and it's showing with how he started off 2014."

Moravian will not return to action until Friday, January 23, 2015 at the Collegeville Classic hosted by Ursinus College.
