Walker & Karnopp Win Events at 23rd Covert Classic

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's track & field squad had a pair of event winners and a total of five ECAC qualifers at the non-scoring 23rd annual Covert Classic hosted by Lehigh University in Rauch Fieldhouse on Saturday.

Sophomore Kahron Walker capturing the high jump with an ECAC qualifying 2.00 meters (6-6.75), tying his career best and the second-best height in school history, and junior Ryan Karnopp winning the pole vault at an ECAC qualifying height of 4.65 meters (15-3), taking first on the fewest number of attempts at the winning bar. Karnopp added Moravian's top time in the 60-meter dash, finishing 13th in 7.42 seconds.

Senior Parker Munson hit the ECAC qualifying mark in the shot put with a toss of 15.18 meters (49-9.75) which placed him third in the event and is the fifth best throw in school history while junior Gavin Bailey placed third in the long jump with an ECAC qualifying distance of 6.60 meters (21-8). Walker was also 14th in the long jump at 6.18 meters (20-3.5).

On the track, senior Alec Duncan has the Greyhounds' fifth ECAC qualifying mark of the day, running a career-best time of 4:23.18 in the mile run to finish fifth.

In the sprint races, Bailey was third in the 400-meter dash in 51.48 seconds while sophomore Austin Gardener finished sixth in the 200-meter dash in 23.46 seconds.

Moravian's team of Duncan, sophomore Cory Taggert and freshmen Mike Kopach and Austin Stetler placed eighth in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:38.46. Taggert was 12th in the 800-meter run in 2:02.61.

Senior Chris Ossont was eighth in the triple jump at a distance of 13.05 meters (42-9.75) while senior Jeffrey Gallagher took 11th in the shot put at 14.10 meters (46-3.25).

The Greyhound squads will be back in action next Saturday evening, February 7 when they compete in the Ramapo College of New Jersey Indoor Select at the New York City Armory.
