Four Hounds Heading to NCAA DIII Outdoor National Championships

CANTON, N.Y. --- Moravian College has qualified four student-athletes to compete at the 2015 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by St. Lawrence University from Thursday, May 21 through Saturday, May 23.

The Greyhounds will have four first-time competitors at the national meet with junior Gavin Bailey the first to compete. Bailey will participate in the long jump on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. having qualified with a mark of 7.19 meters (23-7.25) that won him the 2015 Landmark Conference Championship in the event earlier this month. Bailey is 20th on the qualifying list in the long jump.

Senior Morgan Redmond will also compete on Thursday when she runs in the preliminary races for the 400-meter hurdles at 4:20 p.m. There are heats on Thursday with the top two heat and the next two fastest times advancing to the finals on Saturday at 3:20 p.m. Redmond ran a school-record time of 1:02.58 at the Oneonta May Meet on May 9 to climb to 19th on the qualifying list. That time took nearly three seconds off of her previous career and school best.

Freshman Kyle Allison will be the first of two competitors in the javelin on Saturday for the Greyhounds when the men start at 11:30 a.m. Allison is 12th on the qualifying list with a season-best throw of 60.72 meters (199-2) that came on the final throw of the Landmark Championships as he finished as the runner-up. Moravian has had success in the men's javelin at the NCAA Championships as Allison gives the Hounds a competitor in the event for the seventh straight May, and the Blue & Grey have had an All-American in the event in each of the last four years with Gary Zack winning the national title in 2011.

Freshman Mary Kate Duncan will hit the javelin runway on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Duncan is qualified 13th with a season-best mark of 42.56 meters (139-7) that placed her second at the Coach P Open hosted by Moravian on April 11.
