Sutter & Duncan Selected as Landmark Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Senior sprinter Brielle Sutter and freshman thrower Mary Kate Duncan of the Moravian College women's track & field team have been selected as the Landmark Conference Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for their performances at last Saturday's Muhlenberg College Invitational.

Sutter won the 400-meter dash in a time of 59.59 seconds, and she was the runner-up in the 200-meter dash in 26.46 seconds and third in the 100-meter dash in 12.87 seconds.

"We weren't quite sure what to expect from Brielle. Part of the nursing curriculum here involves long shifts in the hospital in April during their last semester, and Brielle was pulling a couple of long shifts the nights preceding the meet, having to be on her feet until 11:00 pm the night before," commented Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "Despite this and the windy conditions she had a great meet with her best 400 of the year, one of her best ever 100m times, and a good 200 time especially considering the fatigue from the meet and the head wind. She's looking sharp and is ready for a big senior year."

Duncan won the javelin throw with an ECAC qualifying distance of 39.43 meters (129-4). That mark moved Duncan to 20th on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list for the 2015 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships. The top 22 women in each event at the end of the season will compete at the national meet.

"Mary Kate had a big throw at Lafayette last week that landed flat, thus wasn't measured," Baumann said. "We speculated it could have been over 40 meters, so we know she's got some big throws in her. There was a really tough head wind much of the day so we didn't have high expectations for big marks on Saturday, but despite this she still set a PR and is inching closer to distances that could put her in contention for qualifying for the NCAAs. She's off to a great start to what we feel will be a great college career in the javelin."

The Greyhounds will return to action on Friday and Saturday, April 10 and 11 when the squad hosts the 6th Annual Coach P Open at Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field. The meet begins at 4:00 p.m. on Friday and continues at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
