Gawrys and Hummel Earn Landmark Conference Weekly Honors

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian University freshman first baseman Lindsey Gawrys and junior pitcher Madison Hummel have been selected as this week's Landmark Conference Athletes of the Week after their performances this past week in Florida.

Gawrys and Hummel assisted the Greyhounds in going 10-0 to open the season during the PFX Spring Games in Florida and 8-0 this past week, including the milestone 900th career victory for Head Coach John Byrne.

Gawrys, this week's Player of the Week, led Moravian at the plate, hitting .542 in the eight games, going 13-for-24, and Gawrys had a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .633 on-base percentage. She scored 10 runs to go with three doubles, a triple, two homers, eight RBIs and five walks. Gawrys, who hit safely in seven of eight games with two three-hit games and a pair of two-hit contests, had 42 putouts and two assists in 51 chances in the field and was part of three double plays at first base. Byrne commented, "Lindsey was very consistent offensively and came up big in clutch situations throughout the week."

Hummel, who was named the Pitcher of the Week, had a perfect week in the circle, going 4-0 with a 0.78 ERA, 12 strikeouts, three complete games and two shutouts in 27 innings of action. She had two strikeouts in a 6-2 win over Cabrini University followed by four strikeouts in a 6-0 victory versus Neumann University. Hummel then had six strikeouts in a 5-0 triumph versus Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.) College and earned the win as the Greyhounds defeated the University of Mount Union, 8-1. "Madi had a great week with her command of her pitches during her games," added Byrne.

Moravian has this upcoming week off before returning to action on Thursday, March 17 when the squad is scheduled to play their first pair of home games on Blue & Grey Field against Ursinus College. First-pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
