Hounds Split Landmark Conference Doubleheader with Susquehanna & Clinch 27th Straight Postseason Berth

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University softball team split a Landmark Conference doubleheader with Susquehanna University at Blue & Grey Field Saturday afternoon with the Greyhounds winning the first game, 1-0, before falling, 6-0, in the nightcap. 

How It Happened – Game #1

  • The Hounds scored the game's only run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Senior catcher Brooke Wehr reached on a fielder's choice, and she raced home from second base on an RBI single down the right field line by sophomore second baseman Ajala Elmore
  • Junior Madison Hummel scattered five hits and struck out one batter to improve to 10-1 in the circle with her fourth shutout of the season and ninth of her career
  • With the victory and other results around the Landmark Conference Saturday afternoon, the Greyhounds clinched the program's 27th straight postseason appearance and the squad's 22nd consecutive conference tournament berth. Seeding for the 2022 Landmark Conference Tournament including the host site will be determined by action around the conference this week

How It Happened – Game #2

  • The River Hawks scored the first run in the second game in the top of the fourth inning, and Susquehanna tacked on five more runs in the top of the seventh
  • Freshman Madi Cunningham suffered her first loss of the season in the circle, falling to 13-1 on the year, and she had five strikeouts in the contest
  • The loss for Moravian was its first to a Landmark Conference opponent in the regular season in more than three calendar years. The Greyhounds had won 32 straight Landmark Conference regular season games since falling to The Catholic University of America, 2-1 in extra innings, on April 13, 2019 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 10 hits in the doubleheader with Wehr going 3-for-6 with a run. Elmore was 2-for-5 with and RBI
  • Sophomore outfielder Mya Zettlemoyer had the Hounds' only extra-base hit with a double in the second contest
