No. 15 Greyhounds Suffer Road Losses to Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. --- The No. 15 Moravian University softball squad dropped a pair of non-conference games to host Lebanon Valley College, 5-3 in game one and 4-3 in game two, Tuesday afternoon for their first losses of the 2022 season.

How It Happened – Game 1

  • Freshman first baseman Lindsey Gawrys put the Greyhounds ahead in the top of the first inning with a single down the third base line that scored senior infielder Alexis Agrapides to give Moravian a 1-0 lead
  • Moravian added two more runs in the fourth frame when sophomore infielder Ajala Elmore tripled into right-center field to plate Gawrys. Sophomore designated player Emily Silberman drove in what would be the final Greyhound run of the game off a single down the first base line to score Elmore and put Moravian up 3-0 after the top of the fourth
  • The Flying Dutchmen erased the deficit with a bases-loaded, three-run double to right-center field to tie the ballgame at 3-3 through four innings
  • Lebanon Valley plated the final two runs of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure the victory
  • Junior pitcher Madison Hummel started in the circle and allowed nine hits and five earned runs with one strikeout and three walks in six innings of work

How It Happened – Game 2

  • Moravian started off with another lead after getting on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning when freshman outfielder Sage Snyder reached on a fielder's choice to second base for an RBI that scored Elmore for the first run of game two. Senior shortstop Maddisen Bieber recorded an RBI single to left field the brought Silberman across the plate to extend the Greyhounds' lead to 2-0
  • In the bottom of the third frame, Lebanon Valley countered with three runs of their own from a couple of RBI singles and a sacrifice fly to put the Flying Dutchmen ahead 3-2 after three innings
  • The Flying Dutchmen tacked on an insurance run in the fifth inning to add to their lead, 4-2
  • Elmore brought the Blue and Grey within a run in the top of the sixth inning after her RBI single to center field, but Moravian was unable to get another runner across the plate for the remainder of the game
  • In game two, Silberman made her collegiate pitching debut, throwing five innings and giving up four earned runs on ten hits and one walk. Senior Robin McCabe entered in relief to pitch one inning and retired the lineup in order

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 16 hits on the day as the Greyhounds were outhit 19-16 and left 18 runners on base
  • Three Greyhounds ended the day with four hits apiece, led by Gawrys who went 4-for-6 and perfect 3-for-3 performance in game one, with a double, one RBI, a walk and a run scored. Bieber went 4-for-7 on the day and 4-for-4 in game two with a double, an RBI and scored a run while also recording her 150th career hit. Elmore posted a 4-for-6 mark today with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored
  • Silberman was 2-for-6, recording a double, an RBI and scored once while senior right fielder Victoria Smith and freshman outfielder Jessica Gonzalez-Forder both reached base safely
  • Agrapides was walked three times and scored once while Snyder was credited with a run batted in
