Four Greyhounds Named to Landmark Softball All-Conference Teams; Cunningham Honored as Rookie of the Year

TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian University softball team has had four student-athletes earn Landmark Softball All-Conference honors including a pair First Team honorees with freshman pitcher Madi Cunningham as the Rookie of the Year.

Cunningham also earned a spot on the All-Conference First Team, and she was joined by senior catcher Brooke Wehr. Senior outfielder Victoria Smith and sophomore designated player Emily Silberman were selected to the All-Conference Second Team.

The Greyhounds are currently 28-4 on the year, and Moravian earned the second seed in the 2022 Landmark Conference Tournament after 10-2 regular season mark in conference action.

"Well deserved accolades for Madi, Brooke, Vic and Emily," stated Head Coach John Byrne. "They all played key roles in our successful season"

Cunningham is 16-1 in the circle in her debut season with a save, 77 strikeouts and a 2.02 ERA in 107.2 innings pitched. At the plate, she is hitting .389 with 14 hits including seven extra-base hits with two doubles and five homers to go with 12 RBIs and 11 runs scored. Cunningham has also contributed one putout and 23 assists in the field.

"Madi had an exceptional first season, both in the circle and at the plate," commented Byrne. "We look for her to build on this performance as she moves ahead with her career."

Wehr, who made the All-Conference First Team as an outfielder in 2018 and as a catcher in 2019 and 2021 and was the Landmark Conference Player of the Year last season, is hitting .364 with 43 hits, 25 runs, 24 RBIs, five doubles, three triples and seven homers, which has given her Moravian's career home run record with a total of 36. Wehr, who was named to the 2021 National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Third Team and is a three-time selection to the NFCA All-Atlantic Region Third Team, also has 141 putouts and five assists while throwing out two base runners. Wehr is second all-time at Moravian with 220 career hits and 167 runs scored, and she is third in at-bats with 555 and RBIs with 146 heading into the postseason.

Smith, who was a member of the All-Conference First Team last spring, is hitting .304 this spring with 28 hits, 12 runs, nine RBIs, two doubles and two triples while recording 41 putouts and one assist in right field. In her career, Smith has 76 hits, 44 runs, 27 RBIs, five doubles, two triples and a .344 career batting average.

Silberman, who made the All-Conference Second Team for a second straight spring, has a .368 average in 2022 with 35 hits, 14 runs, four doubles and team highs of 33 RBIs and nine home runs. In just two seasons with the Greyhounds, Silberman has 62 hits, 54 RBIs, 18 runs, six doubles, 12 homers and a .408 career batting average.

The Hounds are scheduled to return to action on Sunday, May 8 when the second seeded Greyhounds take on third seed The University of Scranton at 1:00 p.m. in the second game in the 2022 Landmark Conference Tournament being hosted by top seed Susquehanna University. The tournament has been switched to a one-day, single-elimination tournament due to the weather forecasted on Friday and Saturday.
