Gawrys, Wehr, Silberman & Cunningham Selected to NFCA Division III All-Region V Teams

LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- Moravian University freshman first baseman Lindsey Gawrys has been selected to the 2022 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III All-Region V First Team while senior catcher Brooke Wehr, sophomore designated player Emily Silberman and freshman pitcher Madi Cunningham earned spots on the All-Region Second Team.

"Brooke, Emily, Madi and Lindsey all had tremendous individual accomplishments that helped us to a 29-5 record and a trip to the postseason," noted Head Coach John. Byrne. "They all have worked hard and are very deserving of this recognition."

All-Region players are nominated and selected by NFCA member coaches in each of the ten Division III regions. All the All-Region choices are eligible for selection to the NFCA All-America team, which will be announced on May 24.

The Greyhounds completed the year at 29-5 overall and 10-2 in the Landmark Conference. The squad was the runner-up in the 2022 Landmark Conference Tournament that was switched to a single-elimination format due to the weather. The Landmark Conference had a total of 12 All-Region V honorees.

Gawrys led Moravian at the plate in her debut season with a .435 batting average to go with 47 hits, 28 runs, 30 RBIs, nine doubles, a triple, six home runs, 12 walks, a .496 on-base percentage and a .704 slugging percentage while starting all 34 games. Gawrys also recorded 196 putouts and four assists in 202 chances at first base in her first year.

Wehr, who made the 2021 National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Third Team and is a four-time selection to the NFCA All-Region Team having make the All-Atlantic Region Third Team in 2018, 2019 and 2021, hit .363 with 45 hits, 26 runs, 25 RBIs, five doubles, three triples and seven homers, which gave her Moravian's career home run record with a total of 36. Wehr, who was named to the Landmark All-Conference First Team as an outfielder in 2018 and as a catcher in 2019, 2021 and 2022 and was the Landmark Conference Player of the Year last season, also had 150 putouts and five assists while throwing out two base runners. Wehr completed her career second all-time at Moravian with 222 career hits and 168 runs scored, and she was third in at-bats with 561 and RBIs with 147.

Silberman, who made the Landmark All-Conference Second Team for a second straight spring in 2022, had a .392 average this year with 40 hits, 14 runs, four doubles and team highs of 37 RBIs and nine home runs. In just two seasons with the Greyhounds, Silberman has 67 hits, 58 RBIs, 18 runs, six doubles, 12 homers and a .421 career batting average.

Cunningham, who was selected as the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year and garnered a spot on the All-Conference First Team, was 17-1 in the circle in her debut season with a save, 83 strikeouts and a 2.18 ERA in 118.2 innings pitched. At the plate, she hit .359 with 14 hits including seven extra-base hits with two doubles and five homers to go with 13 RBIs and 11 runs scored. Cunningham also contributed one putout and 24 assists in the field.
