Women's Basketball Picked 4th in Landmark Preseason Poll

TOWSON, Md. – The Moravian College women's basketball team was picked to finish fourth in the Landmark Conference preseason poll. The poll was selected by the head coaches of the Landmark Conference.

The Catholic University of America was picked to finish in first place with 67 points and six first place votes. The University of Scranton was picked second with 50 points and one first place vote while Juniata College is third with 43 points and one first place vote. The Greyhounds are in fourth with 32 points while The United States Merchant Marine Academy is in fifth place with 21 points. Susquehanna University, Drew University and Goucher College round out the bottom three, respectively.

The top four teams in the final regular season standings qualify for postseason play in the Landmark Conference Tournament. The top two seeds will host semifinals February 20 with the highest remaining seed scheduled to host the championship February 23. The conference champion will earn the automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk enters her 26th season on the bench with Moravian with a career record of 465-223. Coach Spirk has 11 letterwinners, nine of which are upperclassmen, for the 2012-13 squad including three starters.

Moravian opens up its season on the road versus Ursinus College. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 15th.
