Women's Basketball Ready for Rival Muhlenberg

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College women's basketball squad will travel to rival Muhlenberg College on Sunday, December 16th for the Matte Award game. The contest is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Matte Award: Each year since 1987-88, Moravian and Muhlenberg have battled for the Matte All-Sports Trophy. The award is named for Aaron Matte, a 1970 graduate of Muhlenberg, who was a big supporter of local Division III athletics. The trophy is awarded to the school with the better won-loss record in head-to-head competition in all sports. The standings are at 4-3 in favor of Muhlenberg this year with the Mules earning wins in football, field hockey, men's soccer and women's cross country. Moravian's victories are in volleyball, women's tennis and women's soccer.

Greyhounds vs. Mules: Moravian owns a 39-28 all-time record over Muhlenberg. Last winter, the Mules won 87-78.

National Recognition: Moravian has equaled its best start in school history at 8-0. With the Greyhounds 8-0 start, Moravian is receiving votes in the D3hoops.com and USA Today Sports/WBCA polls.

The "Wright" Way: Sophomore forward Alexis Wright is averaging a double-double off of 19.5 points and 13.6 rebounds per game this winter. She ranks sixth in NCAA Division III with six double-doubles, including the schools' first 20-20 game.

Floor General: Junior guard Katie O'Rourke is averaging 5.1 assists and 3.38 steals per game while only committing 29 turnovers. She is also putting up 13.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest this season.

Beyond the Arc: Junior guard Danielle Brogan has put up a team-best while ranking second in the Landmark Conference with 18 three-pointers. She is also averaging 12.4 points per game.

Points in the Paint: Moravian is averaging 35.8 points in the paint while holding its opponents to a 26.5 average in the paint.

Turnovers = Points: The Greyhounds have forced 177 turnovers, and have scored 175 points off of them, averaging nearly one points per turnover.

Second Half Rally: In the second half, the Greyhounds have scored more points in the second half in six of the eight games.

Next Up: The Lady Greyhounds return to the court on December 31st as they travel to Centenary (N.J.) College. The contest is scheduled for 1 p.m.
