Spirk Named to WBCA Board of Directors for 2013-14

ATLANTA, Ga. --- Moravian College Head Women's Basketball Coach Mary Beth Spirk has been named to a fourth consecutive one-year team and will serve on the 2013-14 Women's Basketball Coaches Association Board of Directors.

Spirk is one of three NCAA Division III coaches on the WBCA Board of Directors joining Patricia Manning from Williams (Mass.) College as an at-large member and Christy Thomaskutty from Emory (Ga.) University, who is the NCAA Division III Legislative Chair. The current president of the WBCA Board of Directors is Florida State University head coach Sue Semrau.

"I am excited to be on the Board of the WBCA for a fourth straight year and will represent Division III to the best of my abilities," Spirk stated. "It is a privilege to serve and an honor to work with Beth Bass, the CEO, Coach Semrau and the rest of the Board."

Spirk, who is entering her 27th season as Moravian's head coach, is one of the most successful coaches in the nation. With a 490-234 record (.677 winning percentage), she ranks 18th among active coaches in victories and 23rd among all Division III coaches in victories. Spirk earned her 300th career win in 2004 with a victory versus Muhlenberg College, and she topped the 400-win mark in 2008-09 with a win over Susquehanna University.

Her career has seen Moravian develop into one of the nation's premier women's basketball powers. Spirk has directed the Greyhounds to the 2009-10 Landmark Conference championship, seven Middle Atlantic Conference Southeast crowns, eight NCAA Division III Tournament bids including a berth in 2009-10, three NCAA "Sweet 16" appearances, three MAC South titles, a pair of MAC crowns, a spot in the 1992 NCAA championship game and an Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference South Championship in 2006-07.

The 2013-14 Moravian squad will tip of its season on Friday, November 15th in a non-conference game versus Trinity (Texas) University in the opening round of the Southwestern University Tournament in Georgetown, Texas.
