Volleyball Wins as Moquete Gets Her 1,000 Kill

The Moravian College women's volleyball team defeated Gwynedd-Mercy College Friday night 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-16). Senior middle blocker Katie Moquete, pictured, tallied five kills in the contest, including her 1,000th career kill. This marks the eighth time in school history that feat was accomplished.

Moquete didn't have to wait long to get her 1,000th kill, she picked it up in the first set and tied the score up at 2-2 to do so.

Junior outside hitter JeanAnne Carey led the way for the Greyhounds, knocking down eight kills to go with her two service aces. Sophomore setter Kelly Brown tallied 21 assists, five digs, two service aces and one kill on the night while junior libero Jesse Krasley totaled 13 digs and also had three assists and one kill.

Sophomore middle back Brittany O'Hara had four kills and three blocks. Freshmen outside hitters Taylor Jennings and Kellianne Comitalo each had four kills. Jennings added six digs and a service ace, while Comitalo had four service aces, three digs and two blocks. Sophomore right side hitter Katelyn Strohl had three kills and two digs while senior defensive specialist Ashley Schmidt had three digs and one service ace.

For the Griffins, senior middle blocker Rachel Lambert tallied six kills. Senior setter Maria Stilwell had eight digs while freshman setter Caitlin Westerfer had 12 assists.

With the victory, the Greyhounds remain undefeated, 6-0, in Johnston Hall for the 2011 season.

Moravian returns to action tomorrow as they head to Cedar Crest College to play Centenary College at 12 p.m. and Cedar Crest at 2 p.m.
