Greyhounds Fall in Conference Opener to Scranton

The Moravian College women's volleyball squad opened the 2011 Landmark Conference season with a 25-21, 25-18, 25-23 loss versus The University of Scranton in a match at Juniata College Saturday.

Senior middle blocker Katie Moquete paced the Greyhounds with seven kills while junior right side hitter Samantha Savite had six kills and a block. Freshman outside hitter Taylor Jennings added four kills and three digs for Moravian while sophomore setter Kelly Brown had 22 assists and 14 digs. Junior libero Jesse Krasley had a team high 22 digs while junior outside hitter JeanAnne Carey had nine digs, three kills and three service aces. Senior defensive specialist Ashley Schmidt, pictured, contributed eight digs to move into fifth in school history with 1,139 digs while freshman outside hitter Kellianne Comitalo had four digs and three service aces. Sophomore middle blocker Brittany O'Hara had four blocks for the Greyhounds while sophomore right side hitter Katelynn Strohl added two kills.

Junior outside hitter Jenell McFadden had 13 kills and ten digs to lead Scranton while freshman outside hitter Julia Crilly had 20 digs and ten kills. Junior right side hitter/setter Emily Keim had 20 assists, four digs and three service aces for the Royals while junior setter Juli Woods added 17 assists. Sophomore hitter Katie Newman had eight kills, three digs and a pair of blocks while sophomore middle hitter Kelly Nolan had five kills and five blocks.
